2027 Nissan Patrol Y63 Confirmed for Australia and Set For Order Open Date

Nissan Australia has formally confirmed that official order books for the highly anticipated, next-generation 2027 Nissan Patrol Y63 will open later this month (August 2026).

Building on a 75-year global off-road lineage and a 65-year presence in the Australian outback, the all-new Y63 generation represents the most comprehensive technological and dynamic shift in the nameplate's history.

Twin-Turbo V6 Replaces Long-Standing V8 with GT-R Technology

The mechanical headliner for the 2027 Patrol Y63 is the retirement of the naturally aspirated V8 engine in favour of an all-new 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine paired with a new nine-speed automatic transmission.

Engineered with expertise drawn directly from Nissan’s GT-R performance program, the forced-induction V6 produces 317kW of power and 700Nm of torque. Compared to the outgoing Y62 V8, the new powertrain delivers an increase of 19kW in power (+6%) and 140Nm in torque (+25%). Crucially for heavy towing and off-road driving, peak torque is accessible much lower in the rev range.

To maintain engine reliability under extreme off-road articulation, the V6 incorporates a specialized scavenger oil pump derived from GT-R race engineering. This system guarantees continuous engine lubrication even when negotiating steep inclines, deep declines, or off-camber terrain.

Adaptive Air Suspension and Smart Chassis Controls

For the first time on a Patrol, selected model grades will offer Adaptive Air Suspension integrated with Nissan's Intelligent Dynamic Damping (e-Damper electronically controlled shock absorbers).

The smart chassis system continuously monitors road conditions and adjusts ride height based on vehicle speed and drive modes:

• Off-Road Mode: Raises the body height to maximize approach, breakover, and departure angles over rough terrain.
• Highway Cruising: Automatically lowers the vehicle at speeds above 90km/h to reduce aerodynamic drag, aiding fuel economy and highway stability. The height returns to normal once speed drops below 70km/h.
• Park Assistance: Lowers the chassis when placed in Park to facilitate easier passenger entry, exit, and cargo loading.

First-in-Class Cabin Technology and Local Specifications

Official images released by Nissan Australia confirm right-hand-drive (RHD) validation vehicles undergoing local testing. The visual preview highlights a clear grade distinction: entry-level models feature 20-inch alloy wheels, while upper-tier variants step up to 22-inch alloy wheels—a major size upgrade from the 18-inch wheels fitted standard across the previous Y62 range.

Inside, higher specification variants feature an array of flagship cabin technologies:

• Monolith Digital Display: Integrates dual 14.3-inch high-definition screens under a single panel on upper grades (entry-level grades are expected to utilize dual 12.3-inch displays). A Head-Up Display (HUD) is also introduced.
• Biometric Cooling: A segment-first system that uses infrared sensors to monitor passenger body temperatures upon entry, automatically adjusting local climate control settings for rapid cooling in extreme Australian heat.
• Ergonomic Seating: First and second-row occupants receive 'zero-gravity' contoured seats, with front occupants gaining multi-mode massage functions on select variants.
• Klipsch Premium Audio: A custom-engineered 12-speaker Klipsch sound system powered by a 12-channel, 600-watt amplifier developed in partnership with Panasonic Automotive.
