Offered exclusively in a single, fully loaded dual-motor all-wheel-drive specification, the MG U9 EV carries a list price of $78,990 before on-road costs. Online registrations of interest are open now via the brand's local website.

MG Motor Australia has officially confirmed local pricing and specifications for its flagship electric dual-cab, the 2027 MG U9 EV. Australia will serve as the global launch market for the high-output electric ute, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 (October to December).
The $78,990 price tag directly targets the impending battery-electric commercial segment. It slots neatly between the two core dual-cab grades of its chief Japanese rival, the Toyota HiLux BEV, which is priced at $76,490 plus on-roads for the base SR and $82,990 plus on-roads for the SR5.
However, buyers should note the stark electrification premium: the internal combustion diesel-powered MG U9 range currently tops out at $59,990 drive-away, meaning the EV requires approximately a $25,000 jump in total on-the-road expenditure. Meanwhile, the smaller, SUV-based KGM Musso EV undercuts the field with pricing between $60,000 and $64,000 drive-away.

Platform & Dimensions: Semi-Monocoque Architecture
The U9 EV shares its underpinnings and core mechanical package with the LDV/Maxus eTerron 9 sold overseas by parent company SAIC Motor.
Unlike traditional body-on-frame diesel utes or the body-on-frame Toyota HiLux BEV, the U9 EV utilizes a unique "semi-monocoque" construction engineered to balance load stiffness with road-car refinement.

Dimensionally, it represents a substantial footprint. Measuring 5500mm long, 1997mm wide, and 1860mm tall on a 3300mm wheelbase, it is 180mm longer overall than a dual-cab HiLux BEV and sits on a 215mm longer wheelbase.
The U9 EV is distinguished from its diesel sibling by a flush, grille-less front aerodynamic mask, revised front bumpers, and a full-width LED light bar stretching across the tailgate.

Powertrain & 102.2kWh Battery: Big Range, 3.5T Towing vs 685kg Payload
Power is supplied by front and rear electric motors generating a combined 325kW of power and 700Nm of torque. This dispatches the 0–100km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds—completely overshadowing the HiLux BEV's modest 144kW/468Nm outputs and outmuscling the dual-motor KGM Musso EV (266kW/630Nm).
- Traction Battery & Range: Houses a massive 102.2kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Under the WLTP test cycle, the U9 EV achieves an official driving range of 430km—crushing the HiLux BEV's 257km WLTP claim.
- The Towing Feat: The U9 EV achieves a full 3,500kg braked towing capacity (750kg unbraked), matching segment-leading diesel benchmarks like the Ford Ranger and HiLux, while far exceeding the HiLux BEV (2,000kg) and Musso EV (1,800–2,300kg).

- The Payload Compromise: Prospective commercial buyers must note the payload trade-off. Because of the substantial mass of the 102.2kWh battery, the U9 EV is restricted to a payload rating of just 685kg. While the rear bed accommodates a standard pallet, the lower payload firmly cements the U9 EV as a recreational lifestyle hauler rather than a heavy trade site runabout.
- Enormous Frunk & V2L Power: Under the bonnet sits an expansive 236-litre lockable front trunk (frunk). Bi-directional Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability outputs up to 6.6kW via the exterior charging flap and up to 2.2kW across three internal 240V sockets to power worksite tools or campsite setups.
- Charging Rates: Features an 11kW AC on-board charger. DC fast-charging peaks at a modest 115kW (requiring 42 minutes for a 20 to 80 per cent recharge), lagging behind the HiLux BEV’s 150kW DC capability.

Air Suspension and Standard Luxury Equipment
A standout mechanical inclusion for the commercial ute category is standard four-wheel electronic air suspension, allowing automatic height self-levelling under load and lowering the rear for easy loading access.
Inside, standard appointments mimic a luxury passenger SUV:
- Digital Interface: Dual 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and a 15W wireless phone charging pad.

- Seating Comfort: Leather-trimmed front seats; the driver enjoys electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, and pneumatic massage functions, while the front passenger seat and steering wheel are heated.
- Audio & Convenience: An eight-speaker JBL premium sound system, a hands-free power tailgate, and a 360-degree surround-view parking camera.
- Safety Credentials: While MG promotes a five-star ANCAP rating, ANCAP has yet to publish local testing data; the rating is currently extrapolated from Euro NCAP’s five-star assessment of the related Maxus eTerron 9.

Factory Warranty Coverage
The MG U9 EV is backed by MG’s seven-year vehicle warranty when serviced within the authorised national MG dealer network.
