2026 MG 4 EV Urban Slashed to $29,990 Drive-Away: $2000 Cashback Targets GAC Aion UT and Geely EX2

MG Motor Australia has introduced an aggressive nationwide retail promotion for its compact electric hatchback, slashing the drive-away price of the 2026 MG 4 EV Urban to $29,990 drive-away via a temporary $2,000 cashback incentive.

To coincide with the promotion, MG will showcase the vehicle at the Everything Electric exhibition at Sydney Olympic Park (September 18–20). Customers who place an order at the event will receive a $500 public charging card—or can alternatively elect to have an additional $500 deducted directly from the vehicle’s purchase invoice.

The $2,000 point-of-sale deduction breaks the critical thirty-thousand-dollar barrier for the entry-level Essence 43 grade.

At $29,990 on the road, it decisively undercuts its key compact electric hatchback rival, the GAC Aion UT (currently discounted to $31,990 drive-away). It also lands cheaper on the road than the mid-tier Geely EX2 Inspire ($30,990 before on-roads, equating to over $33,000 drive-away), although Geely’s stripped-out EX2 Complete remains the absolute category entry point at $26,490 plus on-roads.

Lineup Positioning: Urban Fleet Volumes

Introduced locally in April 2026 with customer deliveries commencing in June, the MG 4 Urban serves as a city-focused, front-wheel-drive alternative positioned beneath the acclaimed rear-wheel-drive MG 4 hatchback.

Despite only being on local roads for three months, the Urban has rapidly established itself as a volume contributor. With 2,195 units delivered to the end of August, it sits as MG Australia's third best-selling EV, trailing closely behind the standard MG 4 (2,581 sales) and the MG S5 electric SUV (2,336 sales).

Powertrains, LFP Batteries, and Real-World Range

The MG 4 Urban lineup is split into two variants differentiated solely by battery capacity, motor power, and driving range:

• Essence 43 ($29,990 Drive-Away): Powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque. It features a 43kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery delivering an official WLTP driving range of 316km.
• Essence 54 ($32,990 Drive-Away): The motor output increases slightly to 118kW and 250Nm. Equipped with a larger 54kWh LFP battery, claimed WLTP driving range expands to 405km—providing roughly 28 per cent more driving range for a $3,000 price step.

Standard Equipment and Safety Credentials

Both variants share an identical, single high-level specification package:

• Cockpit & Infotainment: Houses a 12.8-inch central touchscreen running factory satellite navigation, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree surround-view parking camera, and a wireless smartphone charging pad.
• Cabin Amenities: Includes heated front seats, synthetic leather seat upholstery, a six-speaker audio system, and 17-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels.
• Safety Rating: Holds a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating backed by MG Pilot active driver-assist technology.
