2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE Detailed for Australia: Inline-Six Diesel Replaces Base 4-Cylinder, Triple Superscreen Standard from $142,300

Mercedes-Benz Australia has officially confirmed pricing and local specifications for the facelifted 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE range. Pre-orders are now open nationwide, with core models scheduled to arrive in local showrooms from November 2026, followed by high-performance Mercedes-AMG derivatives in early 2027.

As before, the lineup continues to be offered in two distinct body styles: the practical, family-oriented five-door wagon (SUV) and the swept-back coupe-crossover (Coupé).

Powertrain Restructure: Upgraded Six-Cylinder Grunt and V8 AMG Firepower

The updated GLE introduces substantial powertrain realignments across both petrol and diesel offerings:  

• GLE350d 4Matic SUV (3.0L Inline-6 Turbo-Diesel): Opens the updated GLE family at $142,300 before on-road costs. It replaces the previous entry-level four-cylinder GLE300d (198kW/550Nm), effectively lifting the entry price to the GLE range by $5,700. The new 3.0-litre inline-six diesel produces 210kW of power and 650Nm of torque, supported by a 48V integrated starter-generator (ISG) mild-hybrid system, 4Matic all-wheel drive, and a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission. (Note: The higher-output 270kW/750Nm GLE450d diesel has been retired from the Australian market).

• GLE450 4Matic Coupé (3.0L Inline-6 Turbo-Petrol): The swooping Coupé continues to go without a diesel option in Australia, kicking off from $160,400 plus on-roads. It is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine generating 280kW of power and 560Nm of torque.

• Mercedes-AMG GLE53 4Matic+ (SUV & Coupé): Priced identically across both body styles at $187,900 before on-roads. The re-engineered 3.0-litre twin-charged inline-six petrol mild-hybrid now produces 330kW and 600Nm—with an overboost function delivering up to 640Nm for 10 seconds—paired with an AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission and AMG Ride Control+ air suspension.

• Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S 4Matic+ (SUV & Coupé): Sits at the pinnacle of the performance range, priced at $277,900 for the SUV and $279,900 for the Coupé. Both pack a handcrafted 4.0-litre biturbo V8 mild-hybrid pushing out 450kW and 850Nm.

Australia will miss out on the twin-turbo petrol V8 GLE580. However, Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed it is actively evaluating the GLE450e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) for a potential local release at a later date.

Refreshed Exterior and Standard Australian AMG Line Styling

The exterior update gives the 2027 GLE a sharper, more assertive aesthetic. Changes include redesigned front and rear aprons, revised LED headlight and taillight graphics, a thicker grille surround, and an illuminated radiator grille with an illuminated central Mercedes star.

For the Australian market, Mercedes-Benz has made both the AMG Line exterior package and Night Package standard across all GLE derivatives, bringing high-gloss black exterior trim, dark window surrounds, and model-specific AMG alloy wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches. A collapsible spare wheel is also newly fitted as standard across all variants.

MBUX Superscreen and Next-Gen MB.OS Digital Cockpit

Inside, the GLE's dashboard has undergone a comprehensive digital overhaul. Standard equipment now includes the MBUX Superscreen setup, uniting three 12.3-inch high-definition displays under a single contoured glass surface—spanning the digital driver cluster, central touchscreen, and a dedicated front-passenger display.

The architecture runs on the latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), providing faster computing power, upgraded MBUX Virtual Assistant conversational AI, and continuous over-the-air (OTA) feature updates. The driver interacts via a revised steering wheel equipped with tactile rocker and roller switches.

Active safety is managed by the upgraded MB.DRIVE sensor suite, incorporating Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Lane Change Assist, Steering Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, and comprehensive automated parking functions.
