2027 Smart #5 Price and Specs: New Electric Mid-Size SUV Detailed for Australia
Entering the country's most competitive electric vehicle segment, the mid-size SUV arrives as the brand's largest model to date, positioned to take on the benchmark Tesla Model Y as well as platform-sharing stablemates like the Zeekr 7X and Polestar 4.
Smart Australia has confirmed pricing and specifications for the 2027 Smart #5, ahead of first customer showroom deliveries starting in November 2026.
The vehicle is produced under the 50/50 joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, combining German exterior and interior styling with Chinese EV hardware. In Australia, sales and retail operations are handled through distributor LSH Auto Australia across three initial flagship locations: South Melbourne, Alexandria in Sydney, and Newstead in Brisbane.

Powertrains, Real-World Energy Logic, and Charging
All Smart #5 models are built on a high-voltage 800V electrical architecture and run a large 100kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack with 94kWh of usable capacity.
The Pro+ and Premium+ grades feature a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 267kW of power and 373Nm of torque. The performance-focused Brabus variant adds a front motor to create an all-wheel-drive system delivering 475kW and 710Nm.
While Smart claims an official WLTP range of up to 590km for single-motor variants and 540km for the Brabus, buyers should evaluate the physical mass of the vehicle. The Smart #5 registers a heavy kerb weight of 2,260kg in single-motor guise, rising to 2,378kg for the Brabus. Combined with an upright silhouette, claimed energy consumption sits relatively high at 18.4kWh/100km and 19.9kWh/100km respectively. In typical Australian open-road touring conditions, realistic range will likely sit lower than laboratory WLTP figures.
Replenishing the battery is assisted by ultra-fast 400kW maximum DC fast charging, allowing a 10 to 80 per cent charge in under 18 minutes under optimal conditions. Maximum AC charging is rated at 22kW, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) hardware is standard across the board.

Dimensions and Practicality
Underpinned by a long 2,900mm wheelbase, the Smart #5 maximises interior passenger room. Boot space provides 630 litres of cargo volume with all seats in place, expanding to 1,530 litres when the second row is folded flat. It also incorporates an illuminated front luggage storage compartment under the bonnet.

Safety and Warranty Coverage
The Smart #5 was awarded a five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP in 2025, although it has not yet received an official local ANCAP safety rating.
Every vehicle is covered by a five-year, 150,000km vehicle warranty, accompanied by an eight-year, 150,000km high-voltage battery warranty with a 70 per cent State of Health threshold. Factory scheduled servicing is required every 12 months or 20,000km.
