Chery Australia has opened the reservation program for its upcoming Stockman dual-cab ute, deploying pre-launch incentives as the official local launch date shifts into next year. Initially slated for a late-2026 release, customer deliveries for the Chinese brand's first Australian ute have been officially revised to commence on February 1, 2027.

Powertrain and Localized Engineering
When it arrives, the Stockman will be Australia's first diesel plug-in hybrid (PHEV) ute, differentiating it from incoming petrol-PHEV competitors such as the BYD Shark 6, GWM Cannon Alpha, and JAC Hunter.
The launch variant utilizes a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine paired with a plug-in hybrid system, generating a combined 350kW of power and 800Nm of torque. Chery claims a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 2.0L/100km, with the battery providing up to 100km of electric-only driving range under the NEDC testing cycle.

To prepare the chassis for local conditions, Chery enlisted Premcar—the Australian engineering firm responsible for localized tuning programs on the Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton—to conduct a rigorous domestic testing and validation program.
The diesel PHEV is engineered with a double-wishbone front suspension and a heavy-duty leaf-spring rear setup. For off-road traction, the Stockman is equipped with locking front, centre, and rear differentials, rolling on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in standard all-terrain tyres.
A secondary petrol PHEV variant will follow in the second half of 2027 to take on high-output petrol rivals. This model will utilize a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 395kW and 1,000Nm of torque, while swapping the leaf springs for a coil-spring rear suspension arrangement.
