2027 GWM Haval H7 Lands in Australia: Boxy Mid-Size SUV Arrives in October

GWM Australia is overhauling its mid-size SUV portfolio with the impending launch of the 2027 Haval H7, a distinctly boxier and exclusively all-wheel-drive alternative to the brand's current offerings.

Moving away from the streamlined designs typical of the mid-size SUV market, the new H7—which has been sold in China as the Haval Menglong or Raptor since 2023—adopts upright proportions and rugged design cues. However, buyers should note that despite its tough aesthetic, the H7 utilises a car-like unibody architecture with MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension, contrasting with the heavy-duty body-on-frame underpinnings found on the brand's Tank models.

Powertrain and Range Specifications

At launch, the H7 will be exclusively equipped with GWM's Hi4 all-wheel-drive system and will offer two electrified powertrains built around a 110kW 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.

The standard hybrid model pairs the internal combustion engine with a 1.53kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery to produce a combined 182kW of power and 670Nm of torque. This configuration yields a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.0 seconds and an official fuel consumption figure of 7.0L/100km.

For buyers seeking substantial electric-only capability, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant upgrades to a much larger 33.7kWh ternary lithium battery. This boosts the total system output to a potent 320kW and 670Nm, dropping the 0-100km/h time to just 4.9 seconds. Initially, the Australian market will receive a short-wheelbase, five-seat configuration. This standard-length H7 measures 4800mm long, 1950mm wide, and 1843mm tall, riding on a 2738mm wheelbase. An extended-length, seven-seat variant on a longer 2850mm wheelbase is confirmed to follow in 2027. Stretching to 4912mm in total length, the future seven-seater will be larger than a Kia Sorento and will provide GWM with a three-row option positioned below the large Tank 500.

While not a dedicated rock-crawler, the Chinese-market equivalent features off-road tech including a crawl mode, a tank turn function, and an electronically locking mechanical dog-clutch rear differential.
