It goes head-to-head against established Chinese electric van challengers, including the LDV eDeliver 5 (currently discounted to $47,990 drive-away) and the Farizon V7E ($49,990 drive-away).

Ford Australia has officially entered the budget commercial EV segment with the all-new 2026 Ford Transit City, launching nationwide at a sharply targeted $50,000 drive-away.
Arriving in local showrooms from November 2026 in a single, fixed standard specification, the Chinese-built 1-tonne electric van becomes the new price leader in Ford's Transit commercial family. Crucially, Ford has confirmed the $50,000 national drive-away price is available to all buyers and is not contingent on holding an Australian Business Number (ABN).
More than 50 per cent of light commercial vans sold in Australia trade below the $55,000 bracket. At $50,000 on the road, the Transit City undercuts that threshold with zero tailpipe emissions, while sitting nearly $30,000 beneath the larger, European-sourced Ford E-Transit Custom ($77,890 before on-roads).

Platform & Sourcing: Chinese Manufacturing with European Tuning
The Transit City is manufactured in China by Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford’s long-standing joint-venture partner. It is the first of two JMC-produced Fords bound for Australia, preceding the hybrid Bronco Basecamp due in late 2027.
Underpinned by a dedicated commercial EV platform co-engineered with Ford Europe, the Australian-market model adopts identical mechanical and body specifications to the European and Chinese versions that entered production this month.

Battery Chemistry & Real-World Fleet Telematics
The Transit City is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 110kW of power, drawing from a 56kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.
The LFP cell chemistry was deliberately selected for commercial duty cycles due to its high thermal stability, longer degradation lifespan, and tolerance for daily DC fast-charging.

The 56kWh pack provides a WLTP combined driving range of 245km to 254km (tested with a 28% payload onboard). In urban stop-and-go delivery environments, range climbs up to 380km on the WLTP City cycle.
Ford justifies the modest battery size using real-world operational telematics collected from more than 2,000 Transit Custom vans across Australia. The data revealed that urban couriers average just 76km per day, with 90 per cent of drivers never exceeding 200km during peak shifts. By avoiding an oversized, heavy battery, Ford maximized payload and minimized initial purchase costs.

Charging Speeds & Turnaround Times
- 87kW DC Fast-Charging: Replenishes the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 33 minutes. When operating on tight delivery schedules, a 10-minute splash-and-dash adds up to 68km of range.
- 11kW AC Depot Charging: Takes approximately 5.5 hours for a full 10 to 100 per cent charge, allowing commercial fleets to replenish overnight on standard three-phase depot hardware.

Cargo Packaging: 1,085kg Payload and Triple-Pallet Bay
Measuring with an expansive 6.4 cubic metres of SAE cargo volume, the Transit City matches the capacity of traditional mid-size long-wheelbase diesel vans (such as the 6.5 cu.m Transit Custom LWB).
Cargo functionality is optimized for local logistics:
- Payload Capacity: Rated to carry up to 1,085kg.
- Floor Layout: The square cargo bay accommodates up to three standard Euro pallets.
- Standard Protection: Comes standard with heavy-duty commercial protection out of the box, including a full-surface durable cargo liner, half-height protective side wall cladding, and eight heavy-duty lashing points.
- Access: Fitted with a kerbside sliding passenger door and rear 50:50 barn doors that swing open to 180 degrees for forklift loading.

Cabin Technology and Active Driver Safety
Built for drivers making up to 200 stops per shift, the cabin features keyless entry with push-button start and a three-seat front bench. The driver's seat includes integrated heating—allowing operators to warm themselves directly during winter deliveries without draining the traction battery by heating the entire cabin.
Infotainment is handled via a 12.3-inch central touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto connectivity.

Standard Safety Suite While the Transit City has not yet received an ANCAP crash test rating, standard active safety includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Departure Warning, front and rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines. One-pedal driving calibration allows drivers to brake smoothly to a complete stop using regenerative motor braking.
