Ahead of its late-2027 local rollout, Kia Australia confirmed prototype vehicles will undergo its renowned Ride & Handling tuning program to calibrate dampers, steering, and suspension bushes specifically for harsh Australian road conditions.

Kia has officially unveiled the 2027 Kia PV7 at the 2026 IAA Transportation commercial vehicle expo in Hanover, Germany. Serving as the second dedicated model in the Korean brand’s Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) lineup, Kia Australia has confirmed the full-size electric van will officially arrive in local showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2027, pricing and final model grade walk-ups will be announced by then.

Following the smaller PV5, the PV7 is built on a heavy-duty derivative of Hyundai-Kia's electric architecture, dubbed E-GMP.S.

The PV7 bridges the gap between urban delivery vans and heavy logistics runners. By combining native 800-volt charging architecture with commercial workhorse metrics—a 1.2-tonne payload and capacity for three Euro pallets—it addresses the two biggest pain points for local fleet operators transitioning to electric: payload compromise and depot charging downtime.

Commercial Packaging: 6.1m³ Capacity and 1,200kg Payload

Unlike internal combustion vans converted to battery power, the flat-floor skateboard architecture of the PV7 maximizes load volume and interior ergonomics.

The launch specification features a long-body configuration measuring 5350mm long, 1995mm wide, and 1990mm tall on a massive 3500mm wheelbase—dwarfing the standard PV5 (4695mm long, 2995mm wheelbase) by 655mm in length and 505mm between the axles.

  • Load Volume & Pallets: The standard long-body Cargo variant offers a cargo volume of 6.1 cubic metres (6,100 litres VDA), which swells to 8.0 cubic metres (8,000 litres) on high-roof derivatives. The cargo bay easily swallows three standard Euro pallets (1200mm × 800mm).
  • Payload & Loading Height: Rated to carry up to 1,165kg in long-body form and up to 1,200kg on the lighter compact body. The rear loading sill height is just 550mm from the ground, and operators can choose between 180-degree twin-swing barn doors or a traditional lift-up tailgate.
  • Passenger Configurations: Passenger variants will offer seven- or nine-seat layouts across three or four rows (an 11-seat version is restricted to Korea). Seven-seat models utilize a Long-Rail system allowing rear seats to slide or be removed entirely to carry trade tools or outdoor luggage.

Powertrain, 800V Ultra-Fast Charging, and Range

At launch, all PV7 variants feature a single front-mounted electric motor delivering 200kW of power and 420Nm of torque, with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) dual-motor variant scheduled for future release.

Buyers can select between 71.5kWh and 96.2kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery packs. The 96.2kWh Long Range Cargo variant achieves an official WLTP driving range exceeding 460km.

The native 800V electrical architecture allows the PV7 to accept up to 350kW on DC ultra-fast chargers, slashing 10 to 80 per cent recharge times to the mid-20-minute bracket.

The PV7 features an AC/DC charging port on the front nose as standard, with an optional second AC charging port positioned at the rear side—solving charging cable reach challenges in tight commercial depot bays. Bi-directional Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability outputs power through interior and exterior sockets to run heavy power tools and trade equipment.

Cabin Technology, Telematics, and Safety

The cabin operates on Kia’s new Pleos OS (powered by Android Automotive), available with either a 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch central touchscreen integrated with Gleo AI voice commands and over-the-air (OTA) updates.

For commercial fleets, the Kia Business Solutions Portal integrates directly with third-party Fleet Management Systems (FMS), delivering live vehicle telematics, charging status, and predictive maintenance diagnostics to minimize roadside downtime.

Standard active safety equipment includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping Assist, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, Highway Driving Assist 2.0, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and Pedal Misapplication Safety Assist (PMSA 2.0) to prevent accidental sudden acceleration in tight loading docks.
