2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Facelift: Australian Launch Confirmed Amidst Major Tech and Powertrain Overhaul

Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed that the heavily updated 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class will arrive in local showrooms during the fourth quarter of 2026.

Entering production at the Sindelfingen Factory 56 in April 2026, the new flagship integrates the foundational architecture of the standard S-Class with Maybach's extended wheelbase, now enhanced by the brand's latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and a revised engine lineup.

Exterior Dimensions and Styling Updates

The 2027 Maybach S-Class has physically grown, measuring 5484mm in length, 1921mm in width, and 1510mm in height. While it rides on the same expansive 3396mm wheelbase, the vehicle's overall length has slightly increased due to the implementation of redesigned front and rear bumpers.

The front fascia is dominated by a radiator grille that is now 20 per cent larger than the outgoing model. Buyers can option extensive illumination packages, which light up the grille frame, the Maybach grille lettering, the C-pillar Maybach logo, and the upright Mercedes-Benz bonnet star. The headlamp and tail-light graphics have been updated with star-shaped motifs, while the front headlight clusters feature subtle rose-gold accents.

Mercedes-Maybach has also introduced new wheel designs, including a 21-inch gold Manufaktur wheel and a 20-inch polished forged rim. A notable engineering detail across all silver forged alloy wheels is the inclusion of a ball-bearing mechanism for the centre caps, ensuring the three-pointed star logo remains completely level while the vehicle is in motion.

The exterior palette spans over 150 colours, newly bolstered by a sparkling black paint featuring a glassflake clear coat, as well as a satin-finish Verde Silver Magno. Additionally, the darker, chrome-heavy 'Night Series' appearance package is now available in Nautic Blue Metallic.

Interior Tech, Materials, and Leather-Free Options

Inside the cabin, Mercedes-Maybach is offering a leather-free interior option for the first time, reflecting a shift in modern luxury manufacturing. This specific configuration utilizes ARTICO man-made leather paired with "Mirville" textile—a blend of linen and recycled polyester—finished with deep white piping and diamond-stitched graphics. A new Beech Brown colour scheme is also available across the interior options. The cabin atmosphere is further managed by Active Ambient Lighting, which utilizes 199 LEDs and offers 64 individually selectable colours.

The front cabin is dominated by the standard MBUX Superscreen, which integrates a 36.6-centimetre central display, a 31.2-centimetre passenger display, and a 31.2-centimetre instrument cluster under a single glass panel. This marks the first integration of MB.OS in a Maybach model. The infotainment system is supported by a water-cooled supercomputer and includes an MBUX Virtual Assistant powered by generative AI platforms like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Bing.

For rear occupants, access is granted via optional automatic comfort doors that open and close at the touch of a button. The 13.1-inch seatback displays are now controlled by newly designed, individually customisable remote controls. A 10-litre refrigerated compartment sits behind the rear armrest, specifically shaped to house optional silver-plated Robbe & Berking champagne flutes in custom holders that secure the glassware while driving.

Chassis and Autonomous Driving Capabilities

Ride comfort is managed by the latest iteration of the Airmatic air suspension. This predictive system utilizes Car-to-X communication, receiving real-time data from Mercedes-Benz vehicles further up the road to anticipate and adjust damping for upcoming road surface changes.

The vehicle also features MB.Drive Assist Pro, an assisted driving system designed for hands-free, eyes-on-the-road travel on both highways and urban environments. However, Mercedes-Benz has currently restricted this technology's rollout to the Chinese and US markets, pending local regulatory approvals in other regions like Australia. Parking is aided by the MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360, which utilizes a 360-degree camera to support diagonal parking and can automatically maneuver the vehicle out of spaces.

Global Powertrain Lineup

The global powertrain lineup comprises four primary configurations, pairing nine-speed automatic transmissions with either mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology.

• Mercedes-Maybach S580e (PHEV): This variant pairs a straight-six petrol engine with EQ Hybrid Technology to produce a total system output of 430kW and 750Nm. A 22kWh battery provides an estimated pure electric driving range of at least 92km under WLTP testing parameters.
• Mercedes-Maybach S580 (Mild-Hybrid V8): Powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 395kW and 750Nm. It features a 48V mild-hybrid system with a 17kW/205Nm electric motor that provides supplementary acceleration boosts and handles energy recuperation.

• Mercedes-Maybach S680 (Mild-Hybrid V8): In a significant shift for the European market and other select regions, the S680 transitions to the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, matching the output of the outgoing V12 at 450kW and 850Nm. This is also supported by the 48V mild-hybrid integrated starter-generator.
• Mercedes-Maybach S680 (V12): For specific markets such as the USA, the S680 will retain the hand-built 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, generating 450kW and 900Nm of torque.

2027 Australian Pricing and Availability
