The reduction coincides with a manufacturing transition: Australian-market Performance variants are now built at Tesla's Gigafactory in Shanghai, China, ending imports from Germany.

Tesla Australia has updated the 2027 Tesla Model Y line-up, headlined by a $4,500 price reduction for the flagship Model Y Performance, quicker acceleration times for all-wheel-drive grades, and the rollout of 'Powershare' vehicle-to-load (V2L) hardware.
Available to configure and order from October 1, 2026, the updated Model Y Performance now starts at $84,900 before on-road costs, down from $89,400.
However, prospective buyers should note that this $4,500 sticker-price saving is partially offset by exterior paint, which is no longer bundled as a complimentary feature on the Performance and now commands up to $2,600 as an optional extra.
Quicker Acceleration, Range Revisions, and Powershare V2L
While pricing remains unchanged for the rest of the range—opening at $58,900 plus on-roads for the five-seat Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive—Tesla has applied notable performance gains to its dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants.
The sprint time from 0 to 100km/h drops by half a second across both the five-seat Premium Long Range AWD (now 4.3 seconds, down from 4.8 seconds) and the three-row, six-seat Model Y L Premium AWD (now 4.5 seconds, down from 5.0 seconds). The enhanced sprint times follow Chinese-market updates that introduced a more powerful 'TL2' front electric motor. The flagship Performance retains its sub-four-second pace. In terms of efficiency, the Model Y L carries an official rating of 681km on the WLTP cycle (776km CLTC).
Across the entire 2027 line-up, Tesla has integrated 'Powershare' bidirectional charging. This allows the vehicle's high-voltage traction battery to supply electricity to external items such as camping equipment, power tools, and e-bikes. To utilize this capability, owners must purchase an optional Tesla Outlet Adapter through the Tesla Shop (listed at $145). Powershare cannot be retrofitted to pre-update models.
