For the first time, Australian buyers will be offered a choice between combustion and fully electric powertrains within the same generation of the sports sedan.

BMW Australia has confirmed local pricing and specifications for the eighth-generation BMW 3 Series and its all-electric sibling, the i3, ahead of their arrival in the first quarter of 2027.
The local lineup tops-and-tails with two mild-hybrid petrol models—the entry-level BMW 320 and the flagship M350 xDrive—sandwiching two all-wheel-drive electric variants, the i3 40 xDrive and i3 50 xDrive. Pricing opens at $83,900 before on-road costs for the 320, stretching to $128,900 for the high-performance M350 xDrive.

Powertrains, Charging, and Efficiency
The combustion-powered 3 Series variants utilize turbocharged petrol engines paired with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance. The rear-wheel-drive 320 employs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine generating 155kW of power and 330Nm of torque. The all-wheel-drive M350 xDrive steps up to a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder producing 326kW and 580Nm.
The fully electric i3 models utilize BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology and an 800-volt electrical architecture supporting DC fast charging of up to 400kW. Both the i3 40 xDrive and i3 50 xDrive feature dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations. The 40 xDrive delivers a WLTP driving range of up to 710 kilometres, while the more powerful 50 xDrive stretches that range to a claimed 912 kilometres.
