The iCaur brand joins an increasingly complex stable of Chery-backed marques operating in Australia, sitting alongside Omoda, Jaecoo, the incoming Lepas, and the recently announced Freelander brand.

The rapid expansion of the Chery Group’s Australian portfolio continues with the announcement of an entirely new sub-brand. Dubbed iCaur (pronounced "iCar" with a silent 'u'), the brand will specialize in rugged, retro-boxy SUVs, officially launching in Australian showrooms in early 2027.
Spearheading the brand's local arrival will be the iCaur V25, a mid-size electrified SUV that made its global debut at the Chengdu Motor Show in China just this week. Australian buyers will get their first physical look at the V25 when it makes its local debut at the Everything Electric Sydney expo from September 18–20.

Drivetrain Reality: It’s an EREV, Not Just an EV
While official press materials heavily push "full-electric performance", Chinese-market specifications confirm the V25 actually utilizes an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) architecture.
This setup provides the instant torque of an EV while completely eliminating highway range anxiety.
Under the bonnet, a 115kW 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine acts strictly as an onboard generator. The petrol engine never physically drives the wheels; instead, it constantly recharges a 33.68kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The wheels are driven exclusively by a pair of electric motors, delivering a potent combined all-wheel-drive output of 335kW.
This advanced EREV powertrain yields a claimed pure-electric driving range of over 210km for daily city commuting, expanding to a massive 1,200km of total combined range when the petrol generator is utilized for long-distance touring.

Dimensions and 'Boxy' Practicality
The iCaur V25 is styled with distinct rectilinear, body-on-frame aesthetics—featuring round headlight clusters and a squared-off external spare wheel carrier—despite utilizing a car-like unibody chassis underneath.
To put its size into perspective, the V25 sits squarely in the mid-size segment. Measuring 4636mm long and 1920mm wide, it is 36mm longer and 65mm wider than a Toyota RAV4. Crucially, its 2820mm wheelbase is 130mm longer than the RAV4's, maximizing interior passenger space.
The cabin features up to 41 individual storage cubbies. Boot space measures 378 litres, expanding to 998 litres when the rear seats are dropped. In a unique nod to camping and lifestyle buyers, both the first and second rows of seats can be folded completely flat to create an interior bed space.
Available equipment highlights include large 21-inch alloy wheels, a modern digital cabin, and heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats.

2027 iCaur V25 Australian Pricing & Availability
Chery Australia is currently withholding finalized Australian specifications and pricing for the iCaur V25, with full details to be announced closer to its local launch in early 2027.
The broader iCaur global lineup also includes the smaller V23 SUV and the flagship V27 large SUV. Both of those models have already been revealed in right-hand drive, making them highly likely candidates to join the V25 in Australian showrooms in the future.

- Australian Public Debut: Everything Electric Sydney Expo (September 18–20)
- Showroom Deliveries: Early 2027
- Estimated Market Positioning: Expected to compete aggressively against hybrid variants of the Toyota RAV4, GWM Haval H6, and BYD Sealion 6.
