To incentivize early adoption, Mercedes-Benz is offering a complimentary three-year scheduled service plan for customers who pre-order or purchase a GLS 450 or GLS 450 d before 30 September 2026.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has officially opened order books for the heavily updated 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS range, bringing significant technology upgrades, standardized styling packages, and the return of a six-cylinder petrol variant to the local lineup.

Standard GLS variants are scheduled to arrive in Australian showrooms from November 2026, while the high-performance Mercedes-AMG and ultra-luxury Mercedes-Maybach flagships will follow in early 2027.

Powertrain Realignment: The Return of the GLS 450

Following its removal during the previous 2024 update, the six-cylinder petrol GLS 450 makes a return to the Australian market, re-establishing a broader choice for buyers in the upper-large SUV segment. All powertrains in the 2027 range now feature a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) to improve efficiency and enable engine-off coasting. Every GLS utilizes a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive.

  • GLS 450 4Matic: Powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine featuring an electric auxiliary compressor. It produces 280kW of power and 560Nm of torque (a 60Nm increase over its previous Australian iteration).
  • GLS 450 d 4Matic: Features a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six diesel engine producing 270kW and 750Nm. This updated diesel integrates an electrically heated catalyst to optimize exhaust temperatures throughout the driving cycle.

  • Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 S 4Matic+: Retains the 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V8, delivering 450kW and 850Nm of torque. It is equipped with AMG Ride Control+ suspension and an electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential for enhanced dynamic traction.
  • Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 4Matic: Replacing the previous GLS 600, the Maybach flagship receives a revised 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. Power is bumped by 40kW and 80Nm to match the AMG's 450kW and 850Nm output, delivered through a comfort-focused engine calibration and E-Active Body Control suspension.

Exterior Updates and Cabin Technology

Visually, the facelifted GLS benefits from a larger, redesigned front grille and updated Digital Light LED headlamps that blend more seamlessly into the fascia. A new full-width light assembly modernizes the rear.

For the Australian market, both the AMG Line exterior styling and the blacked-out Night Package are now standard across the Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG GLS models. The standard GLS 450 and 450 d ride on 22-inch alloy wheels with Airmatic air suspension, while the AMG and Maybach flagships step up to bespoke 23-inch forged wheels. A third row of seats remains standard across all standard GLS variants.

Inside, the cabin architecture is dominated by the newly standardized MBUX Superscreen. This continuous glass panel houses three distinct 12.3-inch high-resolution displays: a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated passenger display. The system runs on the new MB.OS architecture, offering faster processing, advanced MB.DRIVE driver assistance systems, and over-the-air (OTA) update capability.
