Arriving in showrooms despite the automaker confirming the model will soon be replaced by the incoming ID. Tiguan, the MY27 ID.4 lineup aims to capitalize on the growing electric mid-size SUV segment against rivals.

Volkswagen Australia has introduced the updated 2027 (MY27) ID.4 electric SUV, bringing increased battery capacities, cabin technology revisions, and expanded active safety suites.

The rear-wheel-drive ID.4 Pro now starts at $60,990 before on-road costs, representing a $1,000 price increase over the outgoing model. The flagship dual-motor ID.4 GTX is priced from $70,990 before on-roads, also carrying a $1,000 increase. To incentivize purchases, Volkswagen Australia is advertising national drive-away pricing of $65,990 for the Pro and $75,990 for the GTX until December 31, 2026.

Powertrain, Battery, and Efficiency Updates

The MY27 update delivers powertrain and battery revisions across both grades, yielding range improvements and weight reductions without altering peak power figures.

The ID.4 Pro upgrades to a larger 84kWh lithium-ion battery pack (up from 82kWh), which marginally extends its WLTP claimed driving range by 2km to 546km. Despite the larger battery, the Pro sheds 39kg of overall weight. Its rear-mounted electric motor continues to produce 210kW of power and 545Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100km/h sprint of 6.7 seconds.

The all-wheel-drive ID.4 GTX retains its 82kWh gross battery capacity but extracts an additional 11km of WLTP driving range, now rated at 522km. It pairs a 250kW/679Nm dual-motor powertrain with a 42kg weight reduction, maintaining its 5.4-second 0–100km/h acceleration time. Both variants support a maximum DC fast-charging input of 175kW.

Technology, Cabin, and Safety Revisions

Responding to customer feedback regarding touch-capacitive controls, Volkswagen has reverted to physical buttons on the ID.4's three-spoke steering wheel.

MY27 Interior Technology Highlights:

  • 'Innovision' Infotainment System: A 12.9-inch central touchscreen now incorporating built-in satellite navigation.
  • Enhanced ID.Light: Visual prompts delivered via a thin LED light strip at the base of the windscreen, now featuring animated directional cues for navigation.
  • Driving Experience Selection with 'Atmospheres': Allows occupants to personalize the cabin environment through coordinated adjustments to ambient lighting and comfort systems.

Expanded Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS):

  • Predictive Speed Limiter (adjusts speed automatically using adaptive cruise control and traffic sign data).
  • Traffic Sign Recognition.
  • Front Cross Traffic Assist.
  • Upgraded Area View surround-view camera system with optimized parking guidance and wheel protection technology.
  • Proactive Occupant Protection System (automatically tightens seatbelts and closes windows upon detecting an imminent collision).
