The model also marks a major production milestone for the Swedish-headquartered brand, serving as the first Polestar vehicle bound for Australian shores to be built at the group’s Renault Korea manufacturing facility in Busan, South Korea.

Polestar Australia has officially confirmed local pricing and specifications for the all-new 2027 Polestar 4 SUV, with order books open now ahead of first customer deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Arriving as a more practical and upright sibling to the existing Polestar 4 coupe, the new SUV variant headlines with a welcome piece of common sense: the return of a conventional rear window and traditional glass rear-view mirror.

Both the Polestar 4 SUV and Coupe version's pricing opens from $73,900 before on-road costs for the single-motor Rear Motor model (down from the coupe’s $78,500), while the 400kW Dual Motor flagship is priced from $81,750 plus on-roads.

Crucially, these price entry points place both single and dual motor Polestar 4 SUV and Coupe models well beneath $91,661 Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles, qualifying the whole Polestar 4 range for complete Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption when purchased via a novated lease.

Design & Practicality: Resolving the Rear Glass Controversy

The headline design evolution is at the rear. Where the coupe sparked heated debate by completely eliminating rear glass in favour of a roof-mounted camera, the Polestar 4 SUV adopts a straighter roofline, an upright tailgate, and a genuine glass rear window paired with a standard optical mirror. Buyers wanting panoramic digital vision can still option the coupe's digital camera mirror system for $1,000.

The squared-off rear profile significantly improves cabin packaging. Second-row passengers gain an extra 25mm (2.5cm) of headroom, complemented by a full-length panoramic glass roof with 99.5 per cent UV filtration.

Cargo capacity behind the second row expands to 530 litres (or 655 litres when loaded to the headliner), swelling to 1,665 litres with the 60:40 rear seats folded flat. Combined with the 15-litre front trunk (frunk), total enclosed storage reaches 1,680 litres. Full-length roof rails provide a certified 100kg dynamic roof load rating for carrying kayaks and roof tents.

Charging & Chassis Calibration

DC fast-charging operates at up to 200kW, replenishing the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes. The on-board AC charger delivers 11kW as standard, with a three-phase 22kW AC onboard charger available as a $900 option.

The SUV benefits directly from the brand’s revised chassis tune, featuring updated spring rates, recalibrated high-capacity dampers, and stiffer anti-roll bars designed to optimize Australian regional touring composure.

Camping Mode, V2L, and Google Gemini AI Integration

The 2027 Polestar 4 SUV introduces a dedicated Camping Mode (activating via an upcoming over-the-air software update). When engaged, the climate control, ambient lighting, and infotainment screens remain continuously powered while parked.

Bi-directional Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability outputs up to 3.3kW (230V / 16A) through an exterior charging adapter, allowing the 100kWh pack to power coffee machines, laptops, or campsite tools until reaching a user-defined battery threshold.

Inside, the Google built-in infotainment system integrates Google Gemini AI. The conversational assistant supports multi-turn dialogue, real-time translations, and trip planning via Gemini Live.
