Upon its 2027 arrival, the dual-cab will enter a rapidly expanding segment of electrified load-haulers, directly targeting the BYD Shark 6, Ford Ranger Hybrid, GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV, JAC T9 PHEV, and the incoming Chery Stockman.

Nissan Australia has officially confirmed the impending arrival of its first electrified ute, with the 2027 Nissan Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) scheduled to touch down in local showrooms next year. Co-developed alongside Nissan's Chinese joint-venture partner Dongfeng, the Navara Pro PHEV shares its foundational architecture with the China-market Frontier Pro, though the Australian division has secured a significantly more potent, bespoke powertrain configuration tailored specifically for Oceania.

Powertrain: A Bespoke 2.0-Litre Solution for Australia
While the Chinese-market equivalent utilises a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, Nissan Australia evaluated that setup and opted instead for a larger 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine for the local market to better manage sustained performance under heavy towing and payload conditions.
This 2.0-litre engine is paired with a high-output electric motor integrated directly into an eight-speed automatic transmission. The resulting powertrain generates a massive preliminary combined output of 300kW of power and 800Nm of torque (subject to final homologation), vastly out-muscling conventional diesel competitors.
The eight-speed transmission is specifically geared to provide low-range crawling capability for technical off-road driving, while also facilitating low-rpm cruising at highway speeds. The system features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) bidirectional charging, allowing owners to power external tools and camping equipment directly from the traction battery. Nissan has not yet disclosed the battery's capacity or the ute's electric-only driving range.

Mechanical 4x4 Capability, Towing, and Payload
Unlike some plug-in hybrid competitors that rely solely on electric motors to drive the rear wheels, the Navara Pro PHEV utilises a traditional mechanical four-wheel-drive system. This setup includes mechanical differential-lock capability. As part of an ongoing 20,000km local testing program, Nissan is actively evaluating both leaf-spring and multi-link coil-spring rear suspension designs, as well as front, rear, and combined differential-lock configurations, to determine the final Australian specification.
Crucially, Nissan is targeting a 3,500kg braked towing capacity and a payload of approximately 1,000kg. If homologated, these figures will position the Navara Pro PHEV at the top of the electrified ute class for load-bearing capability. For context, the BYD Shark 6 offers a 725kg payload, the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV provides 685kg, and the Ford Ranger Hybrid carries 901kg.

Equipment and Heritage Design Cues
Visually, the Navara Pro PHEV pays homage to Nissan's 1980s D21 Hardbody pickup. This heritage is reflected in a modern interpretation of the D21's three-slot hood opening, executed via three horizontal LED lighting elements positioned above the primary grille.
The five-seat dual-cab interior aims to elevate the Navara's cabin beyond traditional commercial standards, featuring extensive soundproofing and premium materials. Depending on the final trim levels, available equipment will include:
- Large central touchscreen and digital instrument cluster
- Heated and ventilated front seats
- Panoramic glass sunroof
- Four on-road drive modes: Eco, Standard, Sport, and Slippery
- Seven off-road terrain modes: Standard, Deep Snow, Mud, Sand, Rock, Wading, and Expert

2027 Nissan Navara Pro PHEV Australian Pricing
Nissan Australia has not yet confirmed pricing, battery capacity, or finalized trim hierarchies for the 2027 Navara Pro PHEV. Further details are expected closer to its local launch in 2027.
Upon arrival, the vehicle will be supported by a conditional 10-year / 300,000km extended warranty program, provided the vehicle is exclusively serviced through the authorized Nissan dealer network.
