Showroom arrivals for the wider updated Amarok range are underway, with customer deliveries of the W600 commencing over the coming weeks.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia has officially updated its best-selling dual-cab ute range, headlined by the introduction of a new halo model: the 2026 Volkswagen Amarok V6 W600, engineered in partnership with Walkinshaw Automotive Group.
Priced from $91,990 before on-road costs, the W600 revives the high-performance partnership previously seen on the first-generation Amarok W580.
However, the headline for everyday dual-cab shoppers is a drastic rationalisation of the wider Amarok lineup. Volkswagen has axed the entry-level four-cylinder diesel Core and Life trims for private retail buyers. As a consequence, the barrier to entry for an Amarok has climbed by more than $18,000, shifting from $55,490 plus on-roads in 2025 to $73,740 for the Style grade.

W600 vs Ford Ranger Raptor: On-Road GT Tourer vs Desert Pre-Runner
At $91,990 plus on-roads, the Amarok W600 commands a $1,300 premium over its platform cousin, the Ford Ranger Raptor ($90,690 before on-roads). However, the two flagship utes serve completely divergent customer profiles:
- The Power Disparity: The Ranger Raptor utilizes a 292kW/583Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6, delivering roughly 60 per cent more power than the Amarok W600’s carryover 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre single-turbo diesel V6.
- The Workhorse Reality: While the Raptor sacrifices utility for high-speed desert running (capping towing at 2,500kg and payload at ~700kg), the Amarok W600 remains a heavy-duty workhorse. It preserves a full 3,500kg braked towing capacity and delivers a substantial 954kg payload—substantially higher than the Amarok Aventura’s 809kg payload rating.

Walkinshaw Engineering: Bespoke Chassis & Segment-First Side Steps
Developed by Walkinshaw Automotive Group in Clayton, Victoria, the W600 package prioritizes on-road stability, touring comfort, and dynamic control:
- Koni FSD Dampers in Steel Raid Casings: Walkinshaw fitted custom-valved Koni shock absorbers featuring Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology. The dampers are encased in Koni’s heavy-duty steel 'Raid' housings, engineered to withstand corrugated outback touring without heat fade.
- 22mm Rear Anti-Roll Bar: In an Amarok first, a 22mm-thick rear anti-roll bar has been integrated across the live rear axle to eliminate body lean and sharpen cornering turn-in.

- Segment-First Motorized Steps: The W600 becomes the first mid-size dual-cab ute in Australia to feature factory power-retractable side steps, which deploy automatically upon opening the doors and tuck away flush into the bodywork to preserve clearance.
- Wheel & Tyre Package: Rides on bespoke 20-inch flow-formed alloy wheels wrapped in road-biased 285/50 R20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres.
- Exhaust & Exterior Identity: Features a wide-body aesthetic with extended wheel-arch flares, a custom front bumper and grille housing a central W-insert, a full-width LED grille light bar, and a dual-outlet sports exhaust system exiting behind the right-rear wheel.
Inside, the W600 receives Savona leather upholstery, branded sports pedals, custom scuff plates, embroidered headrests, and Walkinshaw puddle light projectors. (Note: The electric roller shutter standard on the Aventura reverts to a $3,450 factory option on the W600).

Lineup Restructuring: Four-Cylinder Diesels Dropped for Retail
The broader 2026 Amarok lineup shrinks from 10 variants to seven:
- Axed Trims: The four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engines (both the 125kW/405Nm single-turbo and 154kW/500Nm bi-turbo) have been deleted from private showrooms. The Core trim remains available strictly for commercial fleet procurement, upgraded with a 10-speed auto and an internal timing chain.
- New Entry Grade: The range now opens with the Style grade at $73,740 before on-roads. Buyers can choose between the continuing 184kW/600Nm 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel or a 2.3-litre single-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine producing 222kW and 452Nm. Both share identical $73,740 pricing and utilize a 10-speed automatic with permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
- Limited-Edition Dark Label ($77,990): Strictly limited to 200 units nationwide, this mid-tier special edition slots between the Style and PanAmericana. It adds matte-black 20-inch alloys, black styling accents (mirrors, handles, roof rails, sports bar), a spray-in bed liner, a soft tonneau cover, tinted tail-lights, and IQ.Light Matrix LED headlamps.
