The mid-size dual-cab is slated to arrive in Australian showrooms on February 1, 2027, where it will compete directly against the BYD Shark 6 Performance, Ford Ranger Hybrid, and GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV.

Chery Australia has released detailed preliminary specifications for the 2027 Chery Stockman, setting out the mechanical hardware, off-road geometry, and towing capabilities of the brand's first diesel plug-in hybrid (PHEV) ute.
Unlike its petrol-electric rivals, the launch variant of the Stockman pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission and an under-tub 34kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. This combination delivers 350kW of power and 800Nm of torque, directed through a selectable all-wheel-drive system featuring 4WD High, 4WD Low, and 4WD Auto modes.
According to WLTP testing, the Stockman can travel up to 96km on electric power alone. Chery claims combined-cycle fuel consumption of 1.1L/100km and energy consumption of 31.1kWh/100km, supported by an 80-litre fuel tank for long-distance touring. A high-output petrol PHEV variant (395kW/1,000Nm) featuring coil-sprung rear suspension is confirmed to follow in the second half of 2027.

Towing, Payload, and Chassis Realities
The Stockman is rated for a 3,495kg braked towing capacity and a 750kg unbraked limit. While the braked figure falls just 5kg short of the 3,500kg benchmark set by the Ranger, Shark 6, and Cannon Alpha, buyers must carefully calculate their load limits.
The vehicle has a 2,735kg kerb weight, a 3,500kg gross vehicle mass (GVM), and a 6,500kg gross combined mass (GCM). This results in a maximum theoretical payload of 765kg. However, when towing at the maximum 3,495kg capacity, the available payload drops significantly to just 270kg to remain within the 6,500kg GCM limit.
For off-road use, the diesel PHEV utilizes a double-wishbone front and heavy-duty leaf-spring rear suspension setup. It is equipped with locking front, centre, and rear differentials, offering 247mm of ground clearance, a 30-degree approach angle, and a 25-degree departure angle. Additional off-road software includes Turn Assist, Crawl Control, and a dedicated Expert driving mode.
