Geely Auto Australia has fired a massive shot across the bow of the entry-level EV market with the official launch of the 2026 Geely EX2 electric hatchback.

Arriving in national showrooms from late July 2026, the EX2 joins Geely's existing EX5 electric SUV and Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid. Priced from a highly disruptive $26,490 before on-road costs for the entry-level Complete grade, and topping out at $30,990 plus on-roads for the Inspire flagship, the EX2 severely undercuts established segment rivals like the BYD Dolphin and MG 4 EV.
To further sweeten the launch, Geely is running a time-sensitive promotion: customers who order and take delivery of an EX2 between 12 July and 31 August 2026 will receive a complimentary 7kW home EV charger, a free premium paint upgrade, and access to a 0.68 per cent comparison rate on a 36-month finance term.

Engineering Benchmark: Rear-Wheel Drive and Independent Suspension
Unlike most budget-friendly hatchbacks that rely on front-wheel drive and basic torsion beam rear suspension setups, the EX2 brings surprisingly sophisticated engineering to the sub-$30k bracket.
Underpinned by the Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA), the EX2 features a rear-mounted electric motor and rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration across both grades. Even more impressively, it comes standard with multi-link independent rear suspension—a feature that drastically improves ride compliance and high-speed stability compared to cheaper torsion beams.

The chassis tune for Australian-delivered EX2 models was co-developed with Geely Technology Europe (formerly the Lotus Tech Innovation Centre), ensuring the damper rates are tailored to local road conditions. Because the electric motor sits at the rear, the front wheels are freed from driving duties, allowing an extreme 41-degree steering angle that yields a tight 9.9-metre turning circle for effortless urban maneuvering.

All EX2 models utilize Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery packs fitted with dedicated liquid cooling systems to ensure consistent charging performance during hot Australian summers.

Clever Packaging: A Massive Frunk in a Small Footprint
Measuring just 4135mm long and 1805mm wide on a 2645mm wheelbase, the EX2 footprint is strictly compact. However, Geely has employed clever packaging tricks to maximize utility:
· The 70L Frunk: By deeply inclining the front heat dissipation module, Geely engineers have liberated a massive 70-litre front trunk (frunk) under the bonnet—a feature larger than those found in many mid-size electric SUVs.

· Rear Cargo: The compact rear drive unit creates a deeper boot floor, yielding 375 litres of space with the seats up, expanding to 1,320 litres when folded.
· Hidden Cubbies: An integrated frame seat design frees up an additional 28 litres of hidden storage space tucked neatly under the rear seats.

Cabin Technology and Standard Equipment
The interior is anchored by a large 14.6-inch central touchscreen offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Geely Connected Services, activating via over-the-air updates from August 2026, will unlock a dedicated smartphone app for remote climate control, charging schedules, and vehicle monitoring.
Standard Safety Suite
Safety is a core focus, with the entry-level Complete grade boasting seven airbags (including a front-centre airbag) and a full ADAS suite encompassing Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection, and Evasive Manoeuvre Assist.
